{"id":300,"date":"2017-03-12T22:36:18","date_gmt":"2017-03-13T06:36:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.evanyamoto.com\/?p=300"},"modified":"2017-03-12T22:36:18","modified_gmt":"2017-03-13T06:36:18","slug":"kauai-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/evanyamoto.com\/blog\/2017\/03\/12\/kauai-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Kauai 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We made it back to Kauai in March and had a great time as always. \u00a0This was the first trip with my second son, who was 19 months at the time. \u00a0I&#8217;m always worried with how the young ones will do with the travel, but he did great!<\/p>\n<p>On our last trip to Kauai, we had a connecting flight in Oahu. \u00a0It&#8217;s not a big deal for adults, but it was pretty rough with my older son (2 at the time). \u00a0So this time around, I said I&#8217;d pay whatever more it cost to take a direct flight (which is a lot easier to say when you&#8217;re using miles).<\/p>\n<p>We tried to make this trip easy as possible and stayed over the night before at LAX, which was a great decision. \u00a0Getting to LA is probably the most stressful part of the trip, especially if it&#8217;s on a weekday.<\/p>\n<p>We had\u00a0a direct flight to and from Lihue, which was great, except for the aircraft. \u00a0It turns out, United only seems to use the small 737s on the direct flights to Kauai. \u00a0That&#8217;s the small, crammed plane that you usually take on Southwest. \u00a0It&#8217;s fine for an hour, but 6 hours was way too much and there was no room to take crying babies to the back. \u00a0I&#8217;ll have to re-think the direct flights next time&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this trip is that everything was different with a family. \u00a0Last time, we only had one child and my mom and brother came along. \u00a0This time, we had two kids and it made a world of difference. \u00a0Instead of doing more adventurous things, we spent every day like this. \u00a0Go to a beach in the morning, find some place to eat lunch, go back to the hotel to take a nap, swim in the pool in the afternoon, find dinner at sleep by 8. \u00a0But honestly, it was great and I had no complaints.<\/p>\n<p>Another difference is that we stayed part of the time at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waipoulibeachresort.com\/\">Waipouli Beach Resort<\/a>\u00a0with this great pool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evanyamoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3332.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-302\" src=\"https:\/\/evanyamoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3332-1024x288.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was so fun for the kids that they didn&#8217;t want to go anywhere else.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evanyamoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3352.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-297\" src=\"https:\/\/evanyamoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/IMG_3352-1024x388.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But we did and stayed in Princeville the second half of the trip. \u00a0This place was nice but we had to walk so far up and down hills to get from the car to the condo. \u00a0It was pretty challenging with two little ones and everything is a little less inconvenient on the north side.<\/p>\n<p>When it was just the two of us, we would&#8217;ve liked the Princeville place better. \u00a0But with the kids, we&#8217;d definitely choose the other place. \u00a0It was fun and there was food and markets right across the street. \u00a0Lesson learned for the next trip!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We made it back to Kauai in March and had a great time as always. \u00a0This was the first trip with my second son, who was 19 months at the time. \u00a0I&#8217;m always worried with how the young ones will do with the travel, but he did great!
